I should find a service manual so I'd know this answer. I think I need to replace the thermostat on my engine since the temp barely moves the needle to the beginning of the normal range of the temp guage and it blows barely warm air out the heater. The real downside is 6 mpg .
Maybe some can give me a short tutorial on replacing the thermostat (195 degrees F?). Maybe it makes sense to give this job the Ford! I'd appreciate any help.
It's easy, just drain the radiator down to below the thermostat housing, save the coolant in a CLEAN PLASTIC drain pan. They make some with a handle that has a hole in it. Then remove the thermostat housing (where the top radiator hose hooks to the engine) and replace the thermoastat, and gasket. Spend a little bit of money and buy a good on, it will save headache later.

Thanks. I can barely see the hosing coming off the top left of the radiator but I can't see the thermostat housing. I wanted to make sure it was directly attached to that hosing before I removed all the air inlet housing and filter that's above it.
You were right. It was an easy job after I found out where the thermostat was on the engine under the air intake housing. I took the old thermostat out and will replace it with a 192 degree F thermostat from Ford Motorcraft. The hoses look good but I'll replace them anyway as long as I'm at it.
