the year....1997....i was but a 16 year old punk. was driving my 49 ford F-1 with a rebuilt stock as a freakin rock 74 460 with a factory ford 4bbl intake and a 700 Holly double pumper.my dad and i had built the truck...no it wasnt show....id like to call it a redneck restoration. primered grey, junkyard leaking rear seal c-6 .....300 open rear end.....driving down a 4 lane straight highway minding my own buisiness....doing about 50 when a (guessing) 95 or so chevy shortbed 2 wheel drive ss454 truck flys by me! when i put the ol ford to the floor he was well in front of me and i figured i had no chance......well he stopped pulling away from me....and started getting closer.......around 115mph as i was passing him i looked over and smiled....but he was just looking straight as if he were just casually driving......but i knew he was to the floor at 115/120.....after i passed him about 2 car lenghts i let off and he did the enevitable sore loser vroooooom past me.....but we both knew whos truck had more *****.....
man i miss that truck.....
You miss that truck? What happened to it? Couldn't find V-rated tires for the split rims? You didn't sell it cheap or trade it in on a Dodge or something...did you?
A good friend of mine had a 78 F 150 with a blueprinted 460. His sister blew it up racing (and beating) a 5.0 Mustang on the freeway. From what I'm told, my buddy went down to make sure his truck was okay, since he was a bit ticked that his sister took his truck and wrecked it.
Long story short, rod went through flex plate, torque converter, and into trans. Rod locks up trans, which locks up rear wheels, which sends truck sideways, into the oncoming Mustang.
Again, second hand info, the Mustang driver said he was givin'er as hard as it would go, but the truck was pulling away fast, before the sister lost it. She ended up okay, but the truck and Mustang were both written off.
no i didnt get rid of it.....one beautiful summer day that year i had just got off school went to my dads shop to install the tranny we just got back from being rebuilt(because of the leak). it had a shift kit in it.....and i could hardley wait to get it in, get the kickdown lined up right, and go to the track that sunday morning! my best time was 14.4 in a quarter smokin my one tire all the way through first and halfway through second.....i was sure id get 13;s....going home that day a girl from another high school, late for her boyfriends football game came flying over a hill as i pulled out to make a left hand turn......as i was standing there observing how the straight axle was bent and drivers fender smashed....the cop walked up and said.....nice truck!......i said.....used to be.
well my dad pulled the drivetrain, and gave the smashed body to a buddy who used or sold the parts......but to this day.....the motor and tranny live on in his 57 ford fairlaine two door hardtop......my little brother drives that one.....maybe one day hell be on the road and have the satisfaction of an ss454 pulling up next to him.......
