Need E40D Guru!!
here goes, I just finished having a custom trussed 9" built for my 92. I got the new style big bearing, 35 spline shafts, moser nodular gear case, auburn pro limited slip, 4.56's, and wilwood brakes, when completed and powdercoated, final cost $3700.00. I eliminated the ABS valve with a coupler, ran the unit unloaded for 20 miles as indicated by Presision Gear and gave the rig a test drive of about 30 miles. All was great and I was stoked. I left a post about not having a speedo any more due to no ABS sensor in the rear and didn't realize that the sensor did more than tell the speedo what to do, it semi-controls the transmission. I say "semi" because my test drive took me to speeds of 0 - 45mph. This is ok because my understanding is that the computer doesn't tell the pump to go to full lock until highway speeds. Problem is the computer can't tell if you are at higway speeds without the abs sensor. Result? Lack of fluid pressure moved my trannie rebuild up about 6 months. It burned the clutches and the aluminum planetary carriers started to score severely. Here is where I need the cumulative wisdom of the members of this forum. I am trying to decide to 1.Beef up the E40D with Red Devil Clutches and plates, steel 6 gear planetary assemblies and a shift kit, then try to modify my new already powdercoated rearend with the abs sensor and gear.(all of which is a pretty radical transformation) or 2.Buy a C6 and re-gear my just finished 9" to accept the 3 speed instead of 4 that the existing is. Is there a way to fool the E40D, a different type of sensor, anything someone that has "EXPERIENCED" this can tell me. I am in the middle of a very expensive project and only want proven methods. I know someone out there has a perfect fix that they have done so please help me out. Thanks in advance.
Baumann Engineering's Baumannator TCS (Transmission Control System)
Most product reviews make you wait until the very last paragraph to give a brief summary and a thumbs up or down vote. But we're too excited about this product to make you wait that long, so here's the summary: "It's fantastic. Run, don't walk to your nearest dealer and buy one if you own a vehicle with an AODE (94 - 99 automatic Mustang 5.0 and 4.6) or E4OD (Ford Trucks).
So now that we have that out of the way we'll explain what it is and what it does and why you need one. The Baumannator TCS is a stand-alone microprocessor which controls shift scheduling, line pressure and torque converter clutch operation, while providing complete tuneability of these functions via Microsoft Windows® based tuning software running on a personal computer. It plugs directly into your AODE or E4OD and takes complete control of everything transmission related.
