hello to you all !!! nice site! seems well put together.anyway's, i have a problem with my ranger, i'll explain... i have a 86 ranger 4x4 which i removed the 2.9 and replaced it with a 302/c-4 conversion. and by the way, yes it is awesome!!! now back to the problem. the 302 came from a 1980 wagon country squire. and i took the harness with it, and it's all in the ranger now. but my problem is this. the alt will not charge the batt at all , it's got a new alt, batt, and voltage reg.the wiring all looks good, but no juice.and im at a loss on this one.can anyone help me out, give me a direction ,something to try???it acts as if the curcuit is not complete or something. am i missing something? The ranger...

Good luck with your problems. Enjoy FTE
Your charging system needs to be wired one of the two ways above. If the truck had an amp guage, and the car had a dash alt light, then that could be your problem. If you notice, the green/red wire is wired differently, as is the stator to the alternator.
I would wire the system according to what the truck has, if you have any of the truck wiring left. You need to pick up the truck's factory red/green wire that used to go the regulator. If you find that wire, and the truck has an amp guage, hook the wiring up like the top diagram.
thank you VERY much!!! that diagram is just what i needed!!! i needed to that in simplified form, and there it is!!! because this was what iv'e been thinking. i knew i was missig a connection somewhere. because it's all new and the wiring was basicly just how it was. so i knew i had a break in the system somewhere. and i know that's it because i know where that green/red striped wire is at, and what it's doing. NOT, powering the regulator that's what it's doing, i got it plugged off. thought i did'nt need it.and it's been eating at me . now i know why. as soon as i saw the idiot light diagram, i just smiled... this could be all wrong , but iKNOW it's not. got that ford muscle feeling!!! once again thank you very much, and so does the ranger...!!!! have a merry christmas!!!
im so happy to tell you, that was the problem!!!!!!!! i took that green/redstriped wire and wired it in according to the diagram you showed me. i then started the ranger and i had my meter on the battery, and as soon as i tapped into the terminal, the voltage went from 11.9 to 14.2!!! and now after a few hours of driving[playing] around , the battery is all charged up , starts great and cranks stongly. the system is powered completly. i love this site!!! hell! love you too man!!! you made my christmas complete. im here to stay!!! pic's of my rig coming after the new year. only then will you truely understand my passion for ford trucks. you have a very merry christmas franklin... The Ranger...
Franlin2,
Awesome job! You made this guy's year! It's so cool when one person far away can help solve another's in-depth problem. I hope you work as a service tech somwheres. If so, when can I bring my truck in? Santa Claus has some competition this year...

day 4 update... finished working out last few bugs, when i pulled her in the drive last nite, i knew we was ready. hung out with wife, did good stuff, went to sleep, got up and had christmas today.kids are happy, wife is happy, dog & cat are happy. i got dressed, went to the rig, and climbed in. fired her up, warmed up, all gauges read good to go. backed out, and down the road we went, 5 below zero, bright and sunny. and as we went , children pointed mouths gaped open, as we drove by... and then in my sites ohh what did i see? a little red s-10, looking way up at me. i looked down as i proudly drove by. and the church bells began to ring. funny, i never noticed them till today... but as we drove and enjoyed the stares, and hearing all the engines rev, for the respect my ranger commands, for today it was told , that there is a new big bad ranger back in town!!! and i sit and type these words to you, that i do believe in santa, cause i got just what i wanted, my rig on the road. i guess i was really good this year... that's my christmas story... merry christmas franklin!!! and heatmon, my garage is open too...
