Yep. GF has season tickets for the LA Kings (and damn nice seats!). They're willing to play elsewhere for little or nothing, why not here?
What do you mean there willing to play elsewhere for little or nothing? There playing overseas or in the AHL to stay in shape and as soon as the NHL starts up again they'll leave.
But they're still making a fair bit of coin. Jason Spezza was complaing about a pay cut to play in the AHL but he still makes $90,000 a year. And a fair bit of the guys playing in Europe are playing for the sentimental value of it. Forsberg is playing where he started his career and is coached by his dad.
Although I think if the rules were enforced properly and the clutching and grabbing was cut down the stars would definetly want to play here more. IMO the interference is why the scoring is way down and the trap is so popular.
Any time off, the players can go on E.I., or disability, just like the rest of us.
NHL players jumping on EI. how they gonna file their claim if they have to fly down to LA to do a shampoo commercial???
i was watching a show about one of these small leagues. guys were making 600$ a week to beat each other up. so here's this guy, between hockey seasons he goes back to ontario to work in the mine with his dad.
if you ask me screw the millionaire players. plenty of guys happy they can just play the game. and they give up their best years to play even though they'll never get to the NHL. and the owners just want our money, to buy the beer and build new arenas. baseball's no better. week didn't go by this summer i didn't have to hear some jerk on the radio telling me we needed a new stadium downtown or we were gonna lose baseball. new stadium for what??? so they can sell out maybe half a season while we come see the new stadium, then go back to losing games. screw all of them. they should be happy to play for what we give them.

Living around the Boston area, this is not a problem, while NHL teams have spent big bucks for players over the years, the opposite is true for the Boston Bruins, while the rest of the NHL teams enjoyed star players the cheapskate owner of the Bruins spent money on players at an expansion team level, despite having one of the highest revenues in the league, Mr Jacobs was more concerned with selling his hotdogs and beer than putting a quality team on the ice for the long starved B's fanbase!
As we now go into the New Year, it looks as if there will be no NHL hockey. Ya know what? Who gives a rats a*s!
The players are wrong. I don't care what concession they made to the owners. They just don't get it that the common working schlub who actually enjoys hockey can not pay their salaries.
The owners are just as bad. The money spending for players has spiraled out of control. There are players who are making 2-3million dollars based on longevity. They should be happy for the opportunity. (ie: Chris Therien)
Let the league not play this year. Next year the owners can sign whomever they want and start this mess all over again!

Exactly what I was referring to with the NFL on ice comment....Remember the 80's? I don't remember the last time that I saw a wide open game with the final score of 6-4....maybe I'm just getting old....
