I wasn't a big time athlete, never played the "popular sports", but I was active. I played soccer for 5 years, was on the division All-Star team twice in a row, and the last year I played we won the Presidents Cup.
After that I ran Cross Country in high school. 5th man Varsity two years in a row. Went to CIF both years, made it to the finals the first year, and Semi-finals the second year.
The funny thing about our school and Cross Country was...as you can imagine people make fun of the runners and the team, especially the football players. The first year of the school we we're undefeated while the football team lost every game. Similar thing happened the second year. We also had the highest average GPA out of any sports team on campus.
Anyway, enough of my nerdish ramblings, how about you?
I took 3rd place in the State Gymnastics meet, on the Horizontal bar, my Freshman year...earning my Letter. The team as a whole...9 guys and 6 girls, going up against other schools with more than 20 guys and 20 gals on their teams....we took First in State in overall scoring..more than DOUBLING the 2nd place team's points. We got a standing ovation by everyone at the awards ceremony. I WILL NEVER forget that. We were pretty proud of ourselves.
I made 3 points and played 3 minutes in a basketball game my freshman year. That was my high point. Told the coach what he could do with his team after that. He got in trouble anyway for getting caught with a sophmore cheerleader doing some very private cheers.
I played ice hockey until 2 years ago at 46. I would still play if our town was large enough to have an "old" guys league. Can't keep up with the teenagers and 20 somethings anymore! Some guys my age can do it by backing off a bit on the competitivness. I was not successful changing my style of play to match my years.
Strange, my son's CS team, RCS, beat the pants off of the Team3D that won this WCG tournament at the last CPL (Cyberathlete Professional League) tournament in Texas this summer. Team3D didn't even make it into the playoffs at the CPL. Many of the CPL teams come from all over the world but many don't seem to like the gaming format that the WCG uses.
never had the weight for football although i wanted to play, and i was tired of basketball when i got out of jr. high, so i skated and didnt do any athletics in highschool
Athletic accomplishments.........raced motocross, tried baseball...nope, several years of football...safety, then halfback once puberty caused some good mass develpment.
Now its mostly chasin cattle.
if I would have won one more match at the sectional I would have been a state qualifying wresteler. I played football, an offensive linemen mostly so we get no credit hardly but I did make all conference my senior year and the coach said I was the smallest and slowest on the line but I had the most heart to get the job done. For those of you who are true Jeff Foxworthy fans I was an All-State mooner my junior and senior year.
I didn't play much in traditional sports. Little League for a couple of years, but that was it. Kinda regret not playing something while in H.S....
More recently, I raced downhill mountain bikes. Best placing was a 7th in 30-34 Expert Class at a National race in West Va. out of 60+ competitors. I am more or less retired now although I still ride when I can. Quit mainly because of injuries (although I have been lucky to have avoided any big ones) and also due to the expense - replacing a $7000 mountain bike every couple of years drains the bank pretty quickly...
State champion (x2) wrestling in high school. Undefeated (1-0) in AAU amateur boxing. That was enough to convince me I wasn't a boxer. Won a bicycle race (over 35) up the mountain outside of town. 16 miles straight up. I thought I was bad at 1:27, but the winner did it in :59. That's ugly.
May we forever reminisce in child like wonder about the day I scored 4 touchdowns in a single game, single handedly propelling Polk High to victory against all odds.
