I have a 93 ford bronco xlt, it will go into 4 high, but wont go into 4 low the light on the button wont light up,it use to work about a week ago, all of a sudden it just stopped?any ideas would be helpful thank you
hard shifting into or out of 4-low is the beginning of the end in an Np208 and the Borg-Warner 1345/1356.
Its easier to catch it earlier with a manual shift transfercase because you can feel it through the shifter. The electric motor just doesn't have the power to fight the transfercase into 4-low when there is a problem.
I put it in neutrel and foot on brake,I then put it in 4 high and the light comes on and it is in 4 high, then i keep it in neutrel with foot on brake and push the 4 low button on the dash the light dont come on and it wont go into 4 low, never had a problem with it before, it use to shift fine now nothing, could it be the electric motor? the switch, the transfer case, wiring, has anybody had the same problem? what can i do to find out what it is?will it not work if the transfer case is low on fluid? is there a way i can put it into low with my hand under the truck to see if the transfer case is still good?where should i start? 4 high works fine , somthing is wrong somewhere and i dont know where to start? help
Three things must be in order for the 4 low to work:
1: Must be in 44 high - transfer case motor sends this to the computer
2: Speed sensor must register a speed less than 3 mph - the speed sensor sits right next to the driveshaft on the tcase
3: The gearbox must be in neutral - neutral wire connected to the computer via the gearbox selector switch.
I have the same issue and I am replacing the speedsensor soon. I am beginning to think it is the 44 computer that has a bad relay.
Its funny, you mentioned it was working, then all of a sudden, it quit. Yet everyone trys to instruct you how to do it. Any way, my 93 bronco did same thing. well, now my entire under dash wiring is toast. So, i'm screwed. Cant finf a replacement anywhere.
Are you saying that the "no shift into 4Lo" issue was the cause for the under dash harness problem?
OH......the units with electric shift T-case have a module under the right side kick panel. You will need to test it. It does have a self test function, but I forget the exact procedure. I know you have to disconnect the wires from it, and then press the red button and watch the red LED for blinks. If someone else here cant help you out with this I will look it up for ya.
no no no, My emergency turn signal sylinoid is the main cause of the wiring harness. i beleive but the wire melted other wires and so on. Well now i got to find a miracle. The 4 low thing was a prob i have had for a while.
hey streetgang do you know where to look up the self test info? mine clicks at the relay box and goes into 4-lo very hard kind-of a clunk-grind i hope that's not the beginning of the end for the t-case

No problem......I will look it up for you ASAP. Just let me tell you this though......IMHO if the shift motor is doing its job it will be shifting the t-case from 2wd to 4wd, and 4Lo, and back.
Its job is to take info from the ECU and PCM, like vehicle speed, gear position, etc, and give a yes or no reply to the request to engage the 4X4
