I would not get upset. I would be more concerned that everyone is ok. The truck can be replaced, people can't.
A few years back, I had a 96 chevy caprice that was in really nice shape that I just had a ton of mechanical work done (several thousand dollars worth). The car was rear ended by a lady on a cell phone a week later. As soon as I knew we were both ok, I did not care at all about the car. It was totaled and had to be towed. Cars are only metal, plastic and glass... they can be replaced.
Friendships are worth ruining over something material like a vehicle. However I'd probly be madder if they brought my truck back all scratched up that had an accident. That would just be disrespectful. A friend should respect my property like it was theirs, so if the truck came back with cosmetic damage or signs of abuse, that is a different story alltogether.
Funny you mention damaging cars. My wife is my best friend and she just broke the mirror on our BMW backing out of the garage. I'm leaning towards still being friends. Haven't fully decided yet.
My wife did the same thing to our Tempo backing out of the garage. Then another time I had the tow truck parked in front of the garage but to the side in front of the other garage door. Big red truck. She managed to back up into it also.
If I had a brand new Car or Truck to lend out I'd be a bit woried. However I don't so as long as any damage was not caused by there neglect or stupidity no biggie. The big worry is me borrowing other friends newer trucks lol
Read replies would have to go along with 2 people Heavnbound in Fairbanks "Happy to drive friend anywhere he needs to go. If he was a friend he'd know better than to ask for the Truck". Definitely go with Furball69 in Calgary "You touchie my Truckie, I get my Gunnie". Question ?? to Furball69 , How big is the Gunnie. Thanks BTB
Actually happened to me last year! Some teenage girls ran a stopsign and my friend t-boned them in my truck... at 75mph... I wasn't happy - but I got a big check, and bought a new truck... I was happy no-one was killed. Talk about it all you like, but when it happens you, you might actually change your mind.
I don't actually have a gun but I'm sure I could round one up in a hurry.
My old truck; 89 F350, I didn't have a problem lending out but as has been said by others; my friends would just know better than to ask to borrow my new baby. No problem with lending myself AND my truck out though if a friend is in need.
One thing I woiuld be concerned with is the insurance issue. The insurance I pay for is for me to drive the vehicle not anyone else; yeah, it's full coverage but I don't like taking chances that the insurance company would say that the insured driver wasn't driving the vehicle so you are SOL.
Furball69: Can't take things to seriously, we have to have some humour in it and I liked your "get my gunnie". It's a big deal today when lending your vehicle to a Friend with Insurance and all. In Ontario the Insurance Industry have you cornered, 2 claims and your looking for a new Insurance company. Don't bother looking elsewhere because all Ins. Company's are tied into one Central Computer. To be politically correct it's not claims it's occurances which covers a wide range of possibilities. Someone rear ends you , T-Bones you, we know it's not your fault, Insurance says go ahead and have vehicle fixed. Your out of Pocket until settlement and it's a battle between Insurance Co.'s . This is the first claim usually the 2nd one is not to far behind.
Think about your best friend again. Lets say a situation came up where they needed to borrow your truck, and you agreed. Except they get into an accident. How would that make you feel? Would you be able to overlook that fact for the friendship?
The answer depends on which you value the most, a friend or a truck.

Yeah, you can't fool around with insurance anymore. The last time I was at the insurance company to pay my bill the guy had to take a call while I was sitting there and whoever it was wanted a quote, the agent says 'do you have insurance now?' the guy says 'no', Agent: "you have to have insurance for us to be able to give you a quote." The guy must have said 'uh, what?', cause the agent repeated what he just said. Ever since all the payouts from 911 and the poor stock market performance. I think it's more of an issue now than most realize.
