I have an 86 F-150 4X4 with the 302. When it warms up it doesn't hold a steady idle. It constantly veries by maybe 500rpm but drops down to the point that it stalls out some times. If I hold the acclerator down I don't have the problem but it does get annoying after while cause it's my plow truck. Is that the fuel regulator going k-put?
If you have an EFI 5.0 engine, the TPS is called a Throttle Position Sensor. The computer has a plugin near the left side near the battery. Its designed to help you locate most problems that occures with the engine. A code reader is designed to properly diagnoise your on-board-computer. You can buy one at your favorite auto parts store, or your local wal-mart for around 25.00 to 35.00. The TPS is connected to your throttle body by the Accelerator, it senses (TPS) the movement of where the position of the accelerator is, and the computer uses this information to properly give it the right amount of fuel for it to run properly. If you use a code reader, it will tell you by numbers what is wrong with it, or what you have to fix to be able to go to the next code problem. You stay here for awhile, and you'll learn what one does when they have a problem with these engines. Just post your questions and deside if its the right answer for your problem.
i had EGR problems last year on a 94, it was like when you put the tester on it and pump the trigger it trys to stall and if it does its good, but this truck stalled from the get go when you turn the key, so even if it sounds stupid, change egr valve and sensor, 40$ max, it worked for me
