new exhaust

i just went to my local exhaust store to get a quote for some true duals for my f-150 with a 302 and they tol dme $420! i was thinking going with out any cats and only glass packs but they said they wouldn't take of the cat. so then i thought that cats and straight pipes would work nice but he said that itd be too loud. so he recommended a magnaflow muffler. im not sure what they're called but its pretty much a straight through muffler. he said itd take out some of the harshness of the straight pipes without losing any sound. but the problem with this is that they're $94! being a high school senior, im kinda strapped for cash so i wanted to keep this cost to a minimum. so my question is: how much do glass packs cost? will they work in this setup and still give me the sound i want? where can i find a pair of cheap ones? thanks a bunch!

$420 sounds about right. Glasspacks should run you anywhere from $20-$40 a piece. There have been a million posts by people that have done duals with glasspacks.

Glasspacks will make it loud. With no cats...VERY loud. I know, I own the system ^_^.

As far as glasspacks, you have two types - a perforated tube design, and a louvered center design. I'm not convinced of a great difference in performance/sound with either, but its something to think about. Just try to get a glasspack with an aluminized case, that's the biggest thing. You're not going to have the glasspacks forever (they burn out after a couple years and get annoying), but that just helps you know? As mentioned...anything more than 40 bucks for a glasspack - WALK.

The no cats and straight pipes would be fantastically loud. I'd love it..but..I literally couldn't go to work to unload truck in the morning..the cops would be all over my butt. I have to limp to work as it is with my system! It takes me about 3 and a half minutes to get to work any other time, but int he morning it takes about 7 - can't let the exhaust wake everybody up.

I got my full true dual 2.25" exhaust with cat removal and 24" glasspacks for 180 dollars. I paid the extra bucks (About 55 bucks) for my 4x22" tips. So 230 bucks for my full exhaust. And I'm VERY satisfied. Your costs seem high, especially without cat removal. I got quoted 150 dollars for a straight pipe setup back from the cataytic converters.

Straights will be loud...muffler choice is up to you. I don't keep up on mufflers really ^_^.

That sounds right since you would have to get 2 cats and 2 mufflers.

Glasspacks will work very well here. I have only one with both cats on and it has a nice tone. Also, the glasspacks get louder as the break-in. I know mine is and I've only put 100 miles since I got it.

You can also break the glasspack and it will be loud.
