Question Early 99 F-250

I have an early '99 F-250 6spd. with a build date 4/98(on the door sticker). Yesterday when changing my oil I noticed the sticker on the left valve cover dated the engine 4/99. Is this normal for the truck/chassis to be built that early or has my engine been changed? Would there be anyway to find out?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Ford did not build your truck 1 year before the engine was built.

If your engine was indeed built in '99, then it is not the original engine.

Do you have the PSD badges on the front of the fenders or on the doors?

Early built '99s had front fender badges. Starting in December '98, they put the badges on the doors.

My decals are on the fender. Can the dealership tell me if the engine has been changed?

Thanks,
Mike

They can give you the complete warrenty history. Ask at how many miles the motor was changed.

If it is in fact a newer engine, would it be the same as 99.5 up? Being new to diesels I don't know all the differences between the early 99 and 99.5. Thanks

The dealership can tell you that also! Good luck and welcome to FTE!

Just for clarification, that is not true, to a point. The earlier trucks are the only ones with the badge on the fender, but all of them do not have it. I have an early '99, build date in '98, and my badge is on my door. I don't know what the rhyme or reason was for putting it either on the door or fender. ??

As I said, in December '98 Ford changed over. It might have been a little earlier. So there will be '98-built trucks with the "99" changes to them.

He said that his had a build date of April '98, which meant that he got the fender badges. I was just trying to confirm his April '98 date.

And yes, there is a change to the engine between '98 and '99. Bigger turbo for one thing. I forget the other changes.

jschira-
I'm not trying to be a jerk here. My truck has a build date of 10/98, but has the badges on the door. I've been trying to figure out why some trucks have it on the fender and others have it on the door. Maybe they changed over about the time they built my truck, and the extremely early '99s (early '98s) are the ones with the badge on the fender. I never knew they began production with it on the fender, but it would make sense and then change over to having it on the door.

The Job#2 date for the '99 might have been September '98, not December. It was late in the calendar year. There were some Job #2 trim changes and some engines changes. And not all of those happened at the same time, I don't think.

Like I said, I was just using the badges to confirm that he has an early build '99.

Well production started sooner than that I must have one of the first ones off the line.

my 99 has a build date of 12/97 the motor is 11/97

Anyone know more about the turbo or intercooler changes?

All I know is that of the 4-5 superdutys I drove (99-00) before I bought this one mine felt the strongest by a pretty good margin, it also has the most miles 190k

oh and mine doesn't have any bed body side molding either

Maybe you got a test mule?

Yes, they made it bigger.

Ford does strange things some times. Probably didn't have them in yet from the supplier.

.........Ok , guys, after reading this thread I went out and checked my truck . The build date on the left side is 11\98 . The PSD diesel badge is on the front left door , just behind where the gap is that separates the door from the body . Finally , my truck has a Catalytic Converter . So , is the correct conclusion to arrive at after evaluating these facts is that my truck is a Pre-1999.5 ?? It is completely stock except for the Tymar Airfilter . I will be adding a chip and gauge(s) setup and 4 inch exhaust in mid '05 prior to purchasing a travel trailer for added pulling capacity . So far the Edge Juice and Attitude would seem to be the best choice since I don't have to fool with mounting abunch of Gauges . thanks , sk
