Hey guys I was just reading news that Ford plans to end production off the Excursion after September as its focusing on incresing production off its superduty trucks. Both are made at Fords Kentucky truck plant. Sales off the Excursion are down 20% this year. An extended expedition is expected to fill the product void. The Sierra club has been so down on the excursion from day 1 due to its terrible gas mileage. Im goin to miss this vehicle though. But sales rule and thats what counts. If Ford gets something to compare with GMs Suburban would be a good thing. Why the enviromental groups are so harsh on the Excursion when the suburban is just as much a gas guzzler is beyond me. Nobody says nothing about them. Just some thoughts.
150, this post has been floating around for a few days now. IMO I am not too terribly worried about it. First off, I have my Excursion (and my wife has one too!) so we are set as far as that goes.
In addition, there are always rumors about discontinuing one thing or another. Most of the time they are just that - rumors. But if it turns out to be true then so be it. If I get rid of my Excursion (someday) I will simply get a F-350 crew cab to replace it!
I'll set it with a sticker of $50,000 and discount like the dealer...
1) I'll knock $4,000 off just for talking to me.
2) Another $500 for putting up with my lack of knowledge of 6.0L motors.
3) Let me talk with my manager and see if I can get another $500 off for you.
4) Hey, your wife is cute, we'll drop it another $4,000.
OK, I'll sell my Excursion with 38,000 babied miles for $41,000... keep in mind it's an antique/collector car. Remember the days of gas/fuel guzzling SUV's... well.. this is what will make it a collector for our kids... buy mine now and save!!!
The fuel economy complaints about Excursions are so ridiculous. Two 35mpg four seater econoboxes use more fuel than my wifes 7.3 Excursion getting 18mpg carrying eight people. And you can't tow s___ with the fwd four seater. And, by the way, when you eventually get into an accident, which one do you want to be driving? I know, I'm preaching to the choir. Those who criticize our Excursions are usually just jealous because they can't afford one! I'd be willing to bet that next year when people realize that production is done, the last of the Excursions will be sold out fast.
No. The number produced usually doesn't have a huge impact on collector's value. For instance, millions of Model Ts were produced and they still very desirable for collectors and restorers. The Excursion is being discontinued because its poor sales... in otherwords: lack of desirability. I'm not saying I don't like them... just pointing out the market reality. If a lot of people wanted them Ford wouldn't discontinue them.
Exactly. I think Ford is going to lengthen the expedition some to compete more with the suburban. The suburban has had the market to themselves for to many years. When Ford gets the new model out. The suburbans market share will likly drop dramatically.
The suburbans market share will likly drop dramatically.
I doubt dramatically. The Suburband was the first to the market place by about 50+ years. "First to the marketplace wins the marketplace" One of the 22 imutable laws of Marketing.
I can see them making a dent but not for a number of years.
The only way will be if they offer a diesel option.
