Hey guys,
I did a search on this and it didin't yield anything substantial.
I'm looking at getting a 2001 s/c 4x4 with at 4.0 in the next month or so. I was wondering if there were any problems that I need to look out for. It will probably be an automatic if that matters. I figured that this would be the best place to find something. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

*The SOHC engine in the 01 is notorious for the timing chain "rattle" (had mine fixed under warranty).
*Valve body gaskets on some were over torqued at the factory, requiring a new gasket to smooth out shifting (warranty)
*Steel drive shaft had a slip yolk issue causing a thump upon take off. Grease slip yolk, or replace with 1 piece aluminum shaft.
Sounds like a lot, but not all trucks were affected with any, or all of the above. Just look for those issues when you test drive. Aside from those issues, Great truck. Good luck!
I Think the 01 still had the Pulse Vacume Hubs. A lot of people on this site are very unhappy with the p.v.h. 4x4 system.( not everybody but quite a few .)

Actually, the PVH system was not used on the '01. Ford switched midway thru the '00 year from PVH to a "constant engagement" system on the Ranger.
