How much do you tip at a restaurant?? I don't mean percentage of the bill, but how many dollars? I am about at the point where I won't go out with my dad because the last 2 times he hasn't left a tip. Thats just rude as far as I'm concerned, especially when there wasn't anything wrong with the meal. Just wondered what you did.
If it is a good waiter/ess then I tip $5.00 average $2 or $3.
Well my policy on tipping is this - if the service was "bad" or "average" (meaning the waiter/witress did nothing to show any effort on his/her part), then I don't tip. Tips IMHO are just that -tips. You get tips for going above your regular duties and showing a little initiative, caring, and a pleasant attitude.
I don't tip people for doing their job...that's what salaries are for. Tips are for those who do more than required and show some pride and effort in their service. And it doesn't take much; pulling the chair out for my wife when she sits down, refilling sodas or coffee without our having to ask, little things like that would warrant a tip.
As for the amount, I pretty much do the same as triton_2002
a couple bucks for fast food places
5-10 dollars for nicer restaurants

Well, most waiters aren't even making minimum wage, they depend on the tips to make up for that. If service was really bad then I have no problem with not leaving a tip, but if service was average or just ok, I still leave at least a buck.
a large tim's coffee on my way to work is 1.50 tax included i'll leave a 50 cent tip
fast food places i'll put a buck in their little jar. they see a lot of business so the bucks add up but that buck gets split between all the staff too that work in the back too
a 20$ lunch or breakfast with me and my girlfriend i tip 2$ and change. 3$ if the service is good. i give more to the pizza delivery. what they get paid hardly pays for gas and wear on your car i know i used to do it.
At least $5 never more than $8. I work hard too, and don't make anywhere near enough to brag about.
i did landscaping and snow removal for some of the richest people in canada for years and never got tips. my boss said 20 or 30 years ago he'd get at least 3000$ each christmas not counting booze, wine and christmas baskets. and bonuses for him and the guys whenever he finished a job for someone. nowadays you're lucky if you get a glass of water on a hot day.
I tip NO less than 25%, most waiters/waitresses around me make $2.15/hr... My mother hates going out to eat with me because I will always leave at least $5 on the table for the server....
I tip 15% for average service, more if it's better. The pizza guy gets a dollar. They make a regular wage, plus tips. They also get a stipend for every delivery they make, usually .75 to 1.00, to cover fuel and wear and tear, at least that's what they made a while back. As for restauraunt servers, the minimum wage is 2.13, plus tips, however, if their tips don't add up to the regular minimum wage, the employer has to make up the difference.
Buffett.....buck a person.
'Fast food' with a waiter/waitress.....couple bucks a person.
Nice sit down dinner.......percentage with a learning/participation curve.
The more I make you work, the more the tip.
The more I have to work for my dinning needs, the more I get.
Seems fair.
