1970 Engine ID

I am restoring a 1970 F100 4 x 4. This is our first project. I am sure that the motor has been changed. I believe it is a 302 or 351 but am not sure how to identify it. Should I be looking for a vin #? It is a 8 cyl. and the distributor is in the front.

Any help on engine ID and specific help on restoring this specific truck would be appreciated!

Dist. in the front, means notachebby. Spark plugs like this \\// means FE, 352, 360, 390, like this \\\\ 302.

Any other engine could have been swapped in by a po, so more details must be forthcoming.
