31 Spline Axels???????

Ive been searchin all over the internet and i finally found a site that said "all 9 inch rear ends that came in the 80 - 86 F-150's used 31 Spline Axels.....can anyone confirm this??????

I do believe 28 splines were available, as well, into the early to mid 80's. Someone else posted a similar question a while back, and another had the exact answer. The only way to be sure, is to count the number of splines on what you have, vs what you are upgrading to.

I've heard all sorts of different things. Most axles that have the two holes and one dimple in the middle on the end of the axle are 31 spline. But to make sure best thing to do is to pull an axle and start counting. I still have to do this on my 82 F100 to make sure. Fred
