I drive a 1977 F150 4x4 with 351M and c6 tranny. I have Ford 9 inch open back diff. and Dana 44 open front diff. Broke spider gear, and side gears scored, but all else looks good. I replaced axels last year and they are 31 spline. Question: Every website selling kits containing spider, side gears & cross shaft for Dana 44 say 30 spline!! Did Dana make a 44 that accepts a 31 spline axel? I believe Jeep uses Dana 44 with 30 spline axel?? Would spider and side gears be different for a diff. with 31 spline axel? In other words, will the kit work in my front diff? I don't trust some of the web sites 'cause they will sell you anything leaving you with more problems than you want to deal with. I would appreciate any info on this. (My first rear rebuild)! Thanks.

 

OK, nobody knows! Just as I thought. I hate a mystery. Once I figuire it out though, I'll be the only one to know the answer! Then, when some one else asks this question, I'll be the one to answer him. LOL . Thanks anyway.
