Have a 6.0 Diesel in my 2004 Ford 250 pickup. Have a problem when stopping
or backing out the driveway. My truck idles so rough I think it will stop.
After I take off it runs perfect. If I stop for a short time it starts rough idling
again. This doesn't happen all the time.I took in to a dealer twice and could not
repeat this problem for the mechanic. It was was put on the machine and I
was told no problem. I'm thinking of getting rid of it. Any help?
You should check your oil level to make sure that it is between the min and max mark. Most of the time after an oil change or new from dealer the oil is a bit over max and it can cause some problems with the injectors.
You are not the first to have an intermittent rough idle. Problem is catching what sensor is giving you trouble. Your dealer doesn't get paid for troubleshooting. They just get paid for the fixing part.
Don't give up on it yet. Talk nice to the dealer service manager and tech. Smile and be nice to the service advisor but the guy to suck up to is the service manager. See if they won't put in a black box that you turn on when it acts up.

My truck had the same problem and it was fixed by replacing the bad egr valve and recalibrating the pcm with the latest flash. Runs and idles like a champ now.
I agree with Motown Fire. Get the latest flash, and you may even consider unpluging the EGR for giggles and grins to see if that makes a difference. Also...I don't know what region of the country you're from, but you may also want to make sure your block heater is plugged in and operating properly. Cold mornings play havic with mine if I forget. (Cold to me means below 40.F)
I have an 04 and I had the same problem. I had the truck Flashed and all was well. Plus I get a little better mileage. The down side is the truck sounds a little more like my old 7.3. Good luck
