I'm swapping an 86 302 into my 88 f150 ! The question I have is can I use the serpentine pulley system from my 88 302 on the 86 balancer? I've heard the older balancer is different in that it would space the pulley to close to- or to far away from the motor? I would just swap balancers but someone took the balancer off my 88 motor. Apperently they thought they needed it more than I did? If anyone knows if these balancers are the same please let me know. THANKS

The 351W uses the old 28.2 oz. imbalance, and the 302 uses the 50.0 oz. imbalance.

 

Yes if both engines are 302s then the balancers are the same since they were made after 1981. So the pulley will bolt right up.

anyhoo... you need to check the distance that the balancer sticks out, it might throw your alignment off. If they are the same, then you are fine using either the 88 & 86 balancer.

 

HEY guy's thanks for the info!! Since I didnt have the 88 balancer to compare the two I just bolted the 88 timing cover, waterpump, serpentine accessories,and lower pulley on the 86 motor before I put it in the truck. Every thing seems to line up just fine so apparently the balancers are the same.I wonder if the difference in the timing covers and water pumps is why people thought the balancers where different ??
