I am trying to finds a double groove crank and fan pulley for a 302. my balancer has 3 bolts. I supposedly have a motor from a 72 mustang, but someone told me 3 bolts are only on engines pre 1970. Does anyone know if I should find a new balancer, will anyone work? Anyone know how to ID an engine Mfg year?
Medic, I've been thru this also. I finally went to our local Mustang/Ford salvage with my problem and they sorted it out. Ford is notorious for this problem.Good luck.
Joe's right. This is a PITA. Be careful that you check more than just the number of bolt holes. The pulley alignment also changed in the 70s.
Kai purchased a balancer from Summit. It's a fitz-it-all type for 289-302 with 28oz balance. It accounts for every problem I could think of. Dual bolt pattern, pulley shim etc. I was skeptical when he told me about it. Then I saw the piece and there isn't a thing wrong with it. Cost him $80 as I recall. That's not bad for a new balancer.
