I was hoping to buy a new 4.0 Ranger in 2001 but Ford no longer sells the truck I want to the general public. I want a 4.0 but with a regular cab and long (7') bed for my camper. Ford says it does do fleet sales of the 4.0 long bed but I'd need to buy 50...
Is there any way to get Ford to sell me a Ranger with:
4.0 Liter engine
Reg. Cab (no extended cab)
Long Bed (7-foot box)
Manual Trans.
4x2 or 4x4
I just ordered a ranger edge truck. I liked the 4.0 L 5 speed auto combination. Only way to get the 4.0 L edge was to get a 4x4 extended cab with four doors. Not available in a 4x2. No regular cabs with a 4.0 L to be found or listed in the ordering information. I did drive a 4.0 L 4x2 ranger exteded cab, but I think it had the short bed.Salesman didn't know this one was on the lot. I had to find it myself. Awsome little truck. This 4.0 L motor is a great improvement over the 3.0 L.
Interestingly PlanetFord.com lists a 4.0 L regular cab on their Web site. The printed literature at the dealer says otherwise as does the Ford official web site.
I also just ordered a Ford Ranger Edge, but I was able to get the 4.0L engine in the 4 X 2 version, it is available, but the Ford site doesn't let you think that it is. I haven't got it yet, still waiting for a production date, getting anxious. Got a great deal on it as well - $600 below dealer invoice cost!! If my memory serves me correct, I believe the longer bed will be easy to get on the 2002 model.
