What year/model? This can affect some things that you'll be told.

Pull the leafsprings and replace the bushings, while you're in there install a set of greasable shackle bolts. Better ride and better flex while offroad.

replace the radius arm bushings and replace the axle pivot bushings.

Transmission mount, if original they like to go out when you don't want them to. Will also cut down on vibrations.

Basically make your truck more enjoyable to drive onroad and it'll transfer to offroad comfort and ability as well. The more your springs move and the less your driveline moves the better your truck will do offroad and the smoother it'll ride onroad.

After this stuff, go to the interior. Do you have carpet? If so, time to go (or at least invest in a good set of floor mats). Cloth seats? Seat covers. Both make cleanup alot easier.

Exterior, plan to wheel at night? Get GOOD headlights and install a backup light so you can see what's actually back there.

Undercarriage- extend the vents on your axles, tranny, tcase so as to minimize the chances of sucking water. Skidplates-fuel tank(s), oil pan, tranny pan (if an auto).

That's what i can think of now. all is fairly cheap and easy, just have fun with it.

Justin

If your going to be driving this on the road a lot, I would realy think the welding thing over, if I wanted them locked I would put mini spools in, that way if it wasn't what I wanted for the road I could go back to stock. The mini spools are real cheap.

Just my opinion, and everyone knows what they say about opinions.

With the shackle flip you will gain more articulation and a slightly better ride, but towig heavy loads should be kept to a minimum as this tends to give you quirky handling. But for tools you will need the basic's, a grinder or sorts for those rivets, and probably a drill to drill out some holes (i think you might have to drill some holes, but i'm not sure if the holes are the aligned the same when the bracket is flipped.

No, you should be fine. Check the shackles from time to time to make sure the ears aren't bending but that trailer won't be much weight at all.

Dude, don't take this wrong but if you don't know where your shackles are you need to do some SERIOUS research before you even think about touching anything on your suspension. Otherwise I'd suggest you pay someone who knows what they're doing. It's not rocket science but if you don't know what's what you'll end up getting yourself and/or others killed.

just keep on reading this site, you'll get educated about these trucks in no time, if i were you i would clean every inch of that truck, order a LMCTrucks catalog and start ordering the cheap stuff you need(chrome, bushings, body panels??)make sure all the body mounts are tight and secure, the suspension too, so when you do have the money for major upgrades, you know your rig is solid..........
