I love my flareside, and you gotta keep in mind that the flareside bed is the same width between the wheel wells as the styleside. There is only a 6 inch difference between them in the rest of the bed. If I remember correctly, the distance between the wells is 50" on both beds.
"Styleside" or "Flareside" is just a matter of personal preference. I went with the Flareside cuz it breaks up the massive look of the truck. And it's convenient to have "steps" fore and aft of the rear wheels.
And the big thing...there's not many Flaresides out there, and I like the unique look.
But it's all personal preference, so to each his own. Any Ford is a great truck no matter how you dress it up!!
Another difference between the two.... the flareside is composed of fiberglass. Of course the inside is steel with either design. At least the rear fenders won't rot out like the '73 Chevys...remember those?!? I'm sure there's many pros and cons about fiberglass. I don't wish to think of the cons right now.... I won't get any sleep.
I liked the flareside on my 01 because it had the built in steps and was unique like Don mentioned. I didnt opt for the flareside on my 04 for a couple reasons. 1.) There werent any configurations left over with one when I bought (leftover clearance sale). 2.) I bought a new four wheeler, and I was unsure how well it would fit in my bed along with the other stuff I haul. It appears they have once again made their flaresides larger, so space isnt a major issue to most people. I like the tie downs incorporated into the side of the bed. I think you can be happy with either.
And the big thing...there's not many Flaresides out there, and I like the unique look.
That's the truth! I have had my Black Flareside for 7 moths now, and have yet to see another regular cab flareside around here. I have seen ONE supercab FX4 but thats it.
This is why you should buy a flareside, in my opinion it is a great looking truck. I get compliments on my truck all the time. And I agree flaresides are few and far between, but that is all the more reason to buy one!
