I have a set of scorpion 1.73 pedistal mount roller rocker and hardened push rods in a 400, put on during rebuild 3000 miles ago. Since then the push rod ends have warn away on some of them. I replaced all of them with stock push rods. They always have and still continue to tick even with new psuhrods. They are tourqed to the correct spec. I don't know what to do now.
First, I would make sure you got the correct length pushrod, the make sure you have zero lash on your valves then tighten your rocker a little more than spec. I had to do this with my roller rockers. haven't had a problem since.
They are the stock length pushrod. Thats what Scorpion called for. I have tightened to more that spec still no change. I was told that they where over tight thats why I wore the tips of the hardened ones down.
over tightening the rockers will not increase your preload on a pedastle mount. you will need a dial indicator to check where you are. I think .028" is the minimum pre-load.
you could have worn the old push rods tips due to insufficient pre-load. you may also want to check your roller rockers for wear too.
did you have any valve work done on the heads during your rebuild?
I put on a set of 351C 2v heads that I had rebuilt. I noticed that the stock pushrods are about .030 longer than the "hardened" ones that I had. How do I check for preload?

looks like the longer pushrods are your answer.
as far checking preload use this chart to save you some time. your goal is to take your measurements while the lifter is at the base of the lobes on the cam(no lift)http://stangstable.com/Vlash.htm#Valve%20Lash%20Chart
get a 0 to 1" stem or plunger style indicator with a magnetic base. .001" increments is good enough.
using the chart fully loosen the rocker you are going to check and begin to tighten it up till your at 0 lash(the push rod will just spin easy with your fingers).
now place the indicator tip on the rocker arm just above the push rod where you can get a good reading. your reading is going to count backwards so make sure you load the indicator some to accomodate that. .100" is fine.
zero your indicator and tighten the rocker down to the specified torque noting the movement on the dial.
if you have too much preload you will need to shim and those longer pushrods if not enough. hope that gets you where you want.
