I have a 77 f150 4x4 that I just bought with the I6 300 and a 2 barell carb. I replaced the fuel pump and it started up just fine. The problem is that on the front of the carb are 2 nipples. One is on the passenger side and is for the inlet from the fuel pump. The other is toward the driver's side of the carb and had no hose attached to it when I bought it. When it started up, fuel started spilling from the second nipple. Should it be plugged or does it need to run to something?
Can you post a picture? Is the open part on the top of the carb? If so, it is a vent and the float is too high or there is something in the needle and seat.
I will take a picture with my digital cam and try to post it. I don't know how. Do I just click on the insert image icon and insert the adress like c/my documents/picture?
Go to user cp and create a gallery. It takes up less bandwidth. Also , click on the box to hide the gallery. It will still show up when your username is clicked on, it just won't show up in the gallery search for specific trucks.
I think I did this right. It is in my gallery. The one in question is the one on the right as you look at the picture. It is toward the driver side. I believe it is the vent tube, but what do I need to do to fix this? Maybe the needle is just stuck from sitting and I can tap on it to knock it loose? I had stopped it up with a rubber cap but it seemed to run like crap. Thanks for the help.
I think a rebuild might be in order but maybe you could try to gently tap on the carb itself . After the rebuild I would keep that port plugged .
The doesnt look like the correct carb for your truck anyway.
If fuel is comming out of that port then the float is set too high or the needle is stuck .
I am not planning on keeping that carb or motor for too long anyway. Right now I am just trying to get it halfway running so I can move it around my yard and test out the 4x4 so I can be sure it is all working for the two projects this truck will be a part of. How involed would it be to adjust the float and get to the needle to be sure it is not sticking?
it is not very involved although I think you might have to remove the carburator inorder to take the top of the carb off . you adjust the float by GENTLY bending the tang so that it looks semi level . ( the exact spec I dont know) but if you by a rebuild kit it will show you . You may find that the float itself is sunk and causing the carb to over flow . Are you planning on swapping the engine out for another like a V8?
I am going to pull the engine to sell to a friend. The tranny and t case will be mated to my 360 engine and dropped into a 79 supercab. the C6 and 205 from the supercab will mate to another 400 that will be dropped into this particular truck. It will take a little time and patience, but I think I can do it successfuly.
Yes, that is a vent port. If gas is coming out of it, then either the float is too high or there is a piece of dirt in the needle and seat.
Oh, by the way, that is a 1bbl carb.
