Hey guys, I posted a week ago or so about a tranny problem in my 97 F150 (5 sp Man) and got some pretty good responses to it... thanks alot. I have another question though. Heres the situation, it is grinding really bad going into 2nd gear, only 2nd gear. I would think synchros, and that was the common reply to my original post. I was thinking though, this all started soon after I changed the tranny fluid. I put in Mercon just like the Chiltons said, but remember the oil I drained didn't look the same. Could there have been something else in there covering up the problem and if so, is there something better than Mercon for these Mazda trannys? thanks folks

I just read something on the Ranger forum about Mitsubichis using gear oil... are they all Mazda trannys in the 150s or could it be that I have a Mitsib. tranny and put in the wrong fluid.... where would I find the model/manufacturer on the tranny?

It should be a mazda tranny, the fluid you took out was probably burned up so it wouldn't look the same as fresh trans fluid. These trannys are know for a "sticky" 3rd gear, but if its grinding on 2nd gear only, it may be in need of some repair pretty soon.
