I was wondering about installing electronic ignition, I'm not sure about going with pertronix, heard great stuff but want cheaper way. I have a FE block.
there was 2 options i was thinking about..
1) buying a dizzy for a 76 f100 with electronic ignish...
The oe Ford Duraspark will require the wiring from the dizzy to the ignition module. It is usually mounted on the driver's side inner fender with two wiring connectors. The dizzy alone will not work without the ignition module. You would need to make two wiring hookups to the module and one to the coil that are different than your point system.
Oh, use the newer coil for electronic ignition, the point coil will not work.

Nothing cheaper than a Pertronix. It takes about 15 minutes to install and you don't have to remove the distributer (remove old points, install electronic module under cap, hook up new coil). I have one and love it.
i need a new distributor, so my way of being cheaper probably would be cheaper. new dizzy is about 40 + 60 or whatever for pertronics. other setup is the dizzy @ 50 plus a modulator. Other option is price of dizzy + gm modulator + whatever other parts. which is smaller then 100...
can anyone tell me about the setup on the link i provided and how that would work?
Yes I can.
1)You want an electronic dist. for the F.E. from A/Zone. (Dig around for exact year.
2)You want a Chevy module. (Any year will work. I believe there is one manufacture that you want to stay away from, but can't remember which.)
3)You want to upgrade to the bigger cap and to 8mm wires for and 85 302 Crown Vic. (the 7 & 8 wires are slightly stretched but they work. Someone might pipe in on a year that works better.)
4)You want the TFI coil. It can be gotten from the 85 Crown as well.
Follow the Directions from the site you already have and your done.
If you wanted, you could go the route of keeping your existing dist. and install the pertronix. That will give you essentially the same thing. (I don't think there is an arguement of an adapted oem dist. converted to pertronix has any performance qualities over an oem electronic dist.)
If you decide to do any conversion; do this test before tearing out your old system.
Pull all your plug wires off your plugs; insert a test plug that you know is good, gapped at say 50. Crank motor. Notice the spark brightness, or lack there of, on your old system.
Install your new system. With all your wires off the plugs; plug in the same test plug into a wire and notice the difference in spark.
It's just nice to see the outcome of work done and to know all the work you just did has made a difference.
