okay guys, thanks for not answering my question.. Im asking a question not about pertronics, but other possibilities.... yes i will probably end up installing pertronics, but my question isnt about pertronics. Its about other options. If someone could please answer my questions, that would be greatly appreciated...
Sorry if i sound like a dick, im not trying to be, but i want to know about these other options..
.... I appreciate your guys' input on pertronics though.
The Duraspark setup is real easy, just gotta find power wires, accessory wires, and find out which one goes where, I'll see if I can find a diagram. Make sure you get the box with the blue tab on it where the wires come out, some of the other colored ones are emissions ones. Motorcraft makes a cool upgraded box still and it is silver. I did the Duraspark switch on my '68s 347, but later chunked the DS box for an MSD 6A. All you need is the dizzy and the box, then go to town wiring =)
I keep seeing the big cap conversion for out dizzy's and stuff. i also saw the tech article. I just dont understand it, well at least the spacer part. Is the spacer part of the cap, or is it attached to the dizzy, or whats going on... also for the big cap conversion, can you use the little snap down things that are attatched to the dizzy that snap your cap down and hold it tight?

Dear Dick...
The spacer snaps onto the dizzy, the big cap snaps onto the spacer... both readily available at your local parts house.
You can get all of the wiring harness off a junked vehicle. Check cars also. Use a BLUE GROMMET Motorcraft DS-II module (with the matching wiring) and mount it 1/4" off the fender for cooling. I use 5/16" hex nuts as spacers. I also get my Motorcraft modules from the junkyard and have them tested at a parts store. So far (knock on wood) all of them have tested 100% good out of junked cars.
Forget the GM HEI conversion unless you like headaches.
What would I need to do and what parts should I get and from where? Thanks in advance.
You go to a good parts store and buy a Pertronix, open the box and follow the instructions. I suggest that you might want to do a web search to find out what it is since your posts suggest you are not familiar with it. I prefer the Duraspark as it is tougher than the Pertronix and has cranking retard function and it helps on my cars. Also the Ford system can be serviced anywhere by anyone but Pertronix parts are not available everywhere and while you can convert it back to points if you are stranded I find the Duraspark easier and more durable. I couldn't find a tech article on how to convert to this Petronix system. Does anyone know of a complete how to article? I'd like to do this.
Qman... I'm an idiot and I converted over to Pertronix in about 30 minutes... including beer drinking time. I bought the conversion kit and a matching 40k volt coil on ebay for under $90, not a minutes trouble with it.
I guess I thought I'd have to buy a new distributor amongst other things. It looks like it's nothing more than 2-3 parts and some screws, nuts and wire connectors. I can handle anything that only takes 30 minutes including beer drinking time. And hawkrod, is Duraspark the Ford system? It sounds like that's what you were saying. Is $90 about what it costs for this setup? I recently replaced my stock distributor with a rebuilt unit for $22 from Pep Boys and it works fine. I was originally gonna have a local shop rebuild mine but they wanted $120 and suggested I convert it to electronic ignition for another $150. That's why I went with Pep Boys. But if I can do it myself for $100 then I'll do that.
