are injectors that much?
I f you remember, I was having a problem with the beast starting and was using starter fluid to kick it in the pants. It had also developed an issue with sounding like it was running on 5 cylinders. Well I took it into the shop. A place that came highly recommended. Basically they are stumped. It has a dead cylinder and they are are talking possibly about replacing an injector.
My question.....Is it something that I can do myself? Would they replace them all 'while they are there'? What would the cost be??
Any help is appreciated.
Thanx.

I didnt use it for long but that was the only way to get it started and over to the garage. I just talked to them and they want to start with a compression test ($400.00) and then there talking about pulling and sending out the injectors. The injectors there saying are $300.00 each. Big ouch!!
Has anyone been through this??
Any ideas?

Whell on 6.9 I had I bought remans. from a local rebuilder, that the local ford dealers used & marked them up a bunch I mean a bunch. Go to the local diesal repair shop & ask a mech. were thay get them rebuilt. On 6.9 they had A & B injectors. You will need to check your injectors for the #'s Mine were easy to change , First you need to make sure the area around them is clean of dirt & trash. A good auto parts store will have a product line called K-D they make a comp. tester for the comp. check that is east to do. Just make sure you disable the start up on your engine when checking the comp. !!!!

What are the symptoms of bad injector O rings?
When my O-rings failed, the bottom ring ruptured, dumping fuel into the cylinder at all times, not only when the injector fired. The symptom at that time, was a very loud misfiring injector, and more smoke than I've ever seen come from a truck.
On a smaller scale, O-rings that have become hard will allow more fuel seepage while the engine is cold, so extended smoking in the morning can also be caused by O-rings.
