After studying my ford truck service manual CD (its 1:30am, another late night PSD study fest) I think I may have come up with a way to put wastegate control on a toggle switch, perhaps right next to our beloved 10k mod. It seems to me that pressurized boost air comes from the manifold, T's into a line that connects the boost to the wastegate actuator and a wastegate control solenoid. When the solenoid is closed, the only place for the boost to go is to the wastegate actuator to open it, When the solenoid is open, the boost goes through the solenoid passage and into the green dump tube to the intake, therefore the wastegate actuator dosent open. Now if i understand this right the control solenoid is supplied with voltage anytime the key is on and since it is normally closed, when the truck is running or the key is on, the wastegate is disabled. However it seems as if when the PCM wants the wastegate to open it cuts the ground connection to the solenoid, therefore it closes. When it closes the boost air has nowhere to go but to the wastegate actuator and open it. So, if I tapped into the ground side of the connector wire on the control solenoid and ran it to a toggle switch and then to ground, when I wanted the wastegate to stay closed I would flip the switch, complete the circuit to ground, keep the solenoid energized and therefore dumped the boost before it got to the actuator. Wow this is a long post but I am in one of those late night rambling moods. Am I understanding this correctly and will this simple mod work?
