Thanks... poor 'ol truck, I've been (a) traveling and (b) moving since mid November and it hasn't been out for a run in weeks!
The a/c setup has been converted to R134a... you can hang meat in there!
After market alloy wheels are nice. If they become discontinued or hard to find, that gives you an excuse to buy new wheels. Good luck searching for caps.
Thanks for all the help guys. It looks like I am on the lookout for Type 4 stainless hub caps. I do have a question though... Has anyone put chrome rings or stainless (if you can find them) in combination with the Type 4 caps?
Cheers,
Scott
That sounds like a good idea. Do they make stainless rings for 16.5 rims? The type 4 caps look sharp when they are polished up and dent free. Try my above post for a source of caps. Carl......o&o>........
I put a picture of my hubcaps in my gallery. See if that's what you're looking for. I haven't figured out if mine are for sale yet or not (only had the truck for about 10 days). But maybe we can get the Identification mystery cleared up.
Spudco,
Thanks a bunch, yes I would be interested if you want to sell them. Those are the ones I am looking for. If you are interested in selling them, please send me pics of all four.
Cheers,
Scott
Spudco, thats a nice looking truck you have. What size rims you running , 16 or 16.5 and tire? I didn't know those stainless caps were for split rims from Ford years ago. Carl......o&o>.......
The tire and wheel combo was given to me (as was the truck see my "Back in the Saddle" post) The wheels are American Racing Chrome wagon wheels and are 16.5s, but I don't know the width of the wheels. The tires are 9.5-16.5 in front and 12-16.5 in the back. They are Dayton Ultra Mile Campers. They aren't exactly my style, I like the tall, skinny original steel wheel look, but since these were free, they look great!
The truck came to me with 16 split rims with the caps you've seen. The tires were dry rotted, so I put the "new" wheels and tires on. I'll have to check around but I don't think I'll find anyone here who will mess with the original split rims.
Spudco, it's getting real hard finding 12:00 x 16.5 Radial in highway tread, thats why i asked. I have 6.75" wide rims X 16.5" front and 9.75" wide x 16.5" rear rims from a 79 1 ton. I gave away the splits. Seems everyones gone to 16" rims. It's a pain but keep looking you'll get a set of type 4 stainless caps.
Carl.....=o&o>.....
The superwide, shiny chrome 16.5" wheels and tires will serve me well while I get the rest of the truck up to snuff (mainly brakes). My long-term plan is to put 16" plain steel wheels (white or gray) without the hubcabs and get rid of the jumbo tires. I like the stock tall skinny tires with hi-way tread in the front and mudgrips in the back.
I have 4 of the stainless steels type 4 hubcaps but I'll probably sell them. The truck I learned to drive in didn't have hubcaps, so naked hubs look better to me.
Decisions like the ones we've discussed here are what make these trucks so much fun to drive and build up.
I'm about to get a few caps for my truck, MrMando has an intrest in your caps. Should he back out i'd like to have a crack at them if that works for you. Carl......=o&o>........
