Here's where you get to show off your Effie specific stereo install. PICs of correctly assembled stock systems are welcome too. Tonight I will post PICs of my stealth (in the glove box) CD player install. I also have a custom kick panel to share. We need PICs of a door speaker install, sound deadening tricks, overhead console install, subwoofer install, AMP install.
Try to confine the conversation to installations. No brand wars or 10 post bickering sessions about some little detail. Nobody is right or wrong. There are a lot of ways to skin this cat.

Here's a stealth Head unit install in progress. Nopthing fancy, but works well after upholstery is applied. This is take two. My Alpine has to be recessed farther because it has a rotary volume ****. The two holes are for round rockers I use to power up my power antennae, and AMP. Use a greenlee punch if you can get your hands on one. Drill bits are tough on sheetmetal. I used a 20 dollar sheetmetal break I got from Harbor Freight. Worked well. Cut the square opening with a jigsaw. One hole is off. Have to fix that before I proceed. I'll post measurements after install bugs are worked out. Alpine bracket is installed temporarily in PIC.
Here are my custom kicks. I am pleased with the fit. I made them for a couple reasons. The stock cardboard kicks have a cutout to miss the cab mount. If you extend the kicks they can't sit flush. I used fiberglass to make a raised portion over the cab mount.
The stock cardboard kicks are also flimsy. Not strong enough for my coaxial speakers I ran before, My component speakers are heavier. I cut these from 1/4 tempered hardboard. I'm proud of these. Only about the third attempt. Proving again even an idiot like me can succeed if he is persistent.
This is not a proper speaker install by far. Just temp assembling to work out the issues. Sound deadening still necessary. Anyone have a PIC using Dynomat or equivalent?

You can get preformed foam enclosure that fit over the back of the speaker to help with air space in the back. Usually has a little better responce if the back of the speaker is not flopping around.
Perhaps I posted[B] on the wrong thread. Sorry guys!
Great thread!
I put a Sony dead center in the dash. The Sony I chose had pretty good specs and bass control. For you pureists, I would like to point out that, technically, in my 48 I didn't cut the dash--I filled it in and trimmed it. The original hole for the radio is huge compared to a single DIN hole for a CD player. I am somewhat disappointed in the comments about the Sony stuff though. I hooked it up and it sounded great. Can't speak to the durability as I haven't driven it yet and just push it in and out of the garage!!
I put 5 1/4 " Infinity Kappa component speakers in the kicks. Piece of cake!! My understaning is that the knock on the Infinity's is the midrange, but I like them and that is all that matters. I would NEVER buy a pair of speakers that I did not hear. One nice thing about the Kappas is that yiou can directionally aim the tweeters for optimum sound.
I am a little befuddled as to a sub. Under the seat would work but would require modification to my seat for access. Something that would fold up would be perfect but I may go a different route. I am thinking of a 6" powered Bazooka tube mounted behind the seat. There's just not a lot of cubic feet in these things and I think it would work just fine.
There are pics in my gallery of the speaker install and the Sony in the dash.
I am still fiddling with bed wood but will follow this thread closely

I went down and bought a $10 piece of ABS plastic to make my kicks, ala Roddoors. Worked great--plenty stout. Held on with the Duoloc tabs.
These are CDT Audio High Definition Components. They need a little more room to breathe than a foam enclosure will allow. About .3 cubes or more. Your method is perfect for some speakers. But probably not these. Stay tuned. The speaker thread will be soon.
Tim,
I would like to see a PIC of your kicks. There are probably a half dozen ways to do this. I'd be surprised if mine isn't the hardest like usual. But I never seem to figure it out in time.
Ok what do I have to do to move 2 pictures of my door speaker install from my gallery to a post?
Chuck
Go to your gallery and hit edit. You will copy/paste the forum codes to a post. And it will magically appear. I see an auto insert icon there too. There may be an even easier way???
1. Just goto your gallery,
2. click the picture to make it large,
3. then right click on the pic and choose "copy image location"
4. then go to where you type a topic
5. In the tan section in the reply to topic, there will be a post card thats yellow with mountains, click it
6.then right click the white box where you type and choose "paste"
7. Click the post card box one more time.
Its easy once you try. Now back to your regularlly scheduled thread.... -4speed

I suspect what Chuck is doing is very close to an optimum Effie speaker install. Most speakers appreciate the enclosure characteristics a door offers. Keeping the door hardware from rattling will be Chuck's challenge. I'll share some sources for sound deadening materials that are a lot cheaper than Dynomat. I am going to use genuine dynomat in just a couple critical areas where I want strength as well as deadening. Dynomat is very spendy stuff! I'm thinking 4 bucks a square foot. It would break you to do the whole install with it. I can get a product called eDead for a little over a buck, and it is good stuff too.
Thanks Fenders. I have already bought the dynomat (much bucks). My wife seems to think when it comes to my truck I take the attitude that money is no object ( little does she know how close to the truth that's working out to be ).
This is the last effie for a while so I want to do it to the best of my ability. I am helping build a Model A tudor right now (along with my p/u) so the next project will be a Hot Rod of some type (where am I going to get the garage space and money).
Get a job you say, done that once don't want to do it again
