Dime is the greatest. I had the pleasure of seeing Damageplan a few months ago, and this guy might be barely 5'8" tall, but when he hit that riff to "Walk", you'd think you were looking at an 8' tall monster. He played with a passion that is unmatched by ANYONE. If 10 people were there that night, he'd have still played his heart out. He played music for fans, and that's what he did best until the day he was taken from us. pfogle, I'm sure your brother would tell you the same things I know about him. I cannot beleive this has happened still, it's such a tragedy. Dime left us full of life, full of the same angry passion that he poured into his music. KNAC is playing "Cemetary Gates" right now, and it's about to bring me to tears. The legendary music he left for us will be celebrated forever, and the love and dedication he had for fans of his music will be the precedent for a younger generation of metal.
Ian F, I do not accept your comments about how his name promoted the use of pot. I've always been a Pantera fan and I've never smoked, so you can save your irreverent comments for another day, got it?
I'm going to the Sevendust show tommorrow night, and they'll break out into some Pantera at any point in the show for no reason at all, I can't wait to hear the tribute they'll have for the mighty DIME. God bless you, and rest in peace forever, Darrell Lance Abbott!

93X morning show ended their session today with "Cemetary Gates" which put chills in me, and it seemed like so many songs after that had the same rythem going...
they played an Alice in Chains song shortly after "Cemetary Gates" ( remember Layne Staley from A.I.C. died a few years ago, drug O.D. in his apartment ) and it seemed like so many songs after it were depressing, or had bands who lost its stars tragically.
When Lane Staley died, it was almost expected, because he threw his own life away to drugs. Dime never gave into that, he always kept going, getting more ****ed off with every step of the way. It is so tragic that one person can take away such an icon. Dime lived for the music, and that's why this is even more terrible than anything previous.
I was upset when I heard it on the news this morning. When I got to school this morning me and all of the other kids who are into heavy metal were very quite, stood around in groups talking about him (it had my one buddy in tears because he loved pantera/damage plan) and we mostly moped aroun moped around depressed. Write your congressman and will get 12/8/04 as DIMEBAG DARREL DAY and it will be a national holiday and well have the country shut downon to rember him
Well Ironically enough, I am sitting here listening to "Cowboys From Hell" and drinking a beer in Darrell's memory, and "Cemetry Gates" is playing??? I remember when this album broke and played it for my friends, there jaw dropped, and said "Who the Hell is that on Guitar" back then it was Diamond Darrell, 1990. He carried a big Ax in this world and I'm sure the next. R.I.P.

Like I said in the previous post, I didn't even follow DAMAGEPLAN or PANTERA, or any of those that were killed. But, I feel for all the fans , family , loved ones, of everyone involved including those around this sicko that did this. The sad part is the wasted talented because of one demmented mans choice to act out. I know down the line people will blame the music and/ or guns. It all comes down to it is time that we take mental disorders serious and do something to people that choose to act out like this , as I am certain this freak had many of incidents with his disorder, as well as a long line of vicitims. Unfortunately, music listeners, performers, and gun control will be the victims of him for a long time. Just remember that it was one sick person - not a gun, type of music, or incident that caused this. I only wish someone else could have been able to help out sooner. Incidents like this only cause us to lose more rights of the person acting lawfully. I am certain that the irrational thinking of one man has effected thousands- what a shame.
I was just watching a cnn on site report at the club where the shooting happened. Over the reporter's shoulder you could see a naked man running around in the crowd at the candel light vigil. Just paying his respects I guess.
I poured two shots of Jack Daniel's; one for me, one for Dime.
Metalheads:
If you hear thunder tonight, just know that it means Dime has made it to heaven, and he's plugged in his Axe. He's jamming with Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Cliff Burton up there. I hope to God that Vinnie gets through this okay, and knows that his best days are yet to come. All things happen for a reason, even though I can't think of one single possible justification for what happened in Ohio last night. Pick up your sticks again, and give Zakk Wylde a call.
Ghostgunn, thank you for your words, it's very important to realize that messed up people do messed up things, and it's got nothing to do with the weapon he used, the way he did it, or the music he likes.
Dime will live forever in our hearts, and in our CD players.
i've been lissening to pantera all day long and it just sucks to have to know that the man will never be able to create another spine tingling or bone jarring power house riff again. it just makes me sick that some idiot could do this to all these people, to take away peoples loved ones in such a sick display. if only i could get my hands on that sick idiot, but we all know theres no way for this to happen. i went out and rebought 2 pantera cds that had previously been stolen. it felt so good, yet so horrible knowing that nothing like it would ever come again. i feel really bad for vinnie having seen his own brother murdered in cold blood right before his eyes.
Well...hmm..this just seems so weird...i was up this morning getting ready for school, and i hear the news say something like "HEAVY METAL GUITARIST SHOT IN COLUMBUS LAST NIGHT"..or something to that effect..and so i am glued to the tv...then it showed a picture of Dime, and it was like..my heart just melted...this is such a tragic loss to the metal world...he was one of the main reason's i even started playing guitar...and he will be missed very bad...i hope Vinnie, and the rest of the band and family makes it through alright..i can't even imagine what it would be like to see a man shoot your brother right in front of you...Vinnie had to be terrified...this is just such a tragedy..a true metal legend has died, but will forever live (and play) on in our hearts..may you RIP Dime..and i thank you so much for the inspiration you were to me as a guitarist...in the beginning and now...your playing made me try to be better,it gave me something to try for...and i appreciate everything you did...RIP Darrel Abbot 1966-2004
a friend told me that the shooting in Ohio was exactly 24 years to the day of the murder of John Lennon-
does anyone know whether this is true or not??
When Cowboys first came out.I heard Dime on the radio live with his guitar.People were calling in request.Nobody stumped him he played everything anybody requested,Van Halen,Yngwie, etc. He was an awesome player.Carl
