pfogle, you are lucky that your brother is okay, but that guy wouldn't have shot anybody but Dime. He was a crazed fan that assaulted Dime, giving a speech before shooting him 5 times.
Dimebag Darrell was an amazing musician. He lived for his fans, and he played music that made us all come alive. He'll be missed forever by us, the fans. Pantera is and always will be my favorite band, I knew that they'd get back together in time. Until then, Damageplan is awesome, and so is Phil's Superjoint Ritual. Vinnie, Dime, Rex, and Phil are all such amazing gifts to music. God bless you Dime, your music and your passion are a blessing to us all, and you will be missed!
For those of you who love Dime's music, or are interested in hearing it for the first time, go to www.knac.com and click "listen". They have a free low-band stream. They normally play all hard rock and metal, but all last night and today they are playing Pantera and Damageplan nonstop in memory of the great Darrell Abbot.
Agree with TorqueKing - sounds like this killer was out for Dimebag and the band specifically. What a stunner.
Talked with a guy here at work who had seen Pantera in concert. He said they had such a hard, aggressive edge to them, it likely attracted fans who were "out there" on the edge. I bought one Pantera album years ago, and couldn't get into it (more 'cause I don't dig baritone lead singers than Dimebag's guitar work). Guess I'll give it another listen in memory of Darrell.
thats messed up... one of my buddies called me at 8:00 this morning to tell me, im pretty sure another buddy of mine is in tears cause he thought Pantera was the best thing ever.
i really liked Damageplan, the new band that formed from pantera, their CD is pretty good.
as said before, the guy who shot everyone did it simply because Pantera split up. great reason huh?? i guess he went in through a back door, walked on stage and shot Dimebag 4-6 times, shot at some of the other band members, a shot or two into the audience....
unfortunatly we have to add a few more great members to the dead list of rockstars... another John Lennon case
this is probably the worst news of my day. i've seen pantera live on several occasions at different venues around pittsburgh. there is no one else out there who has the sound and guitar presence that dime had. pantera is one of the bands taht helped me through the dark days along with korn and metallica. this idiot gunman couldn't have let damageplan go on to create new powerful music, he had to be too caught up in his own world to let things go. it's amazing what happens when people only think of themselves.
Torque, thank you for your support in this matter. My mother left work to be with alex this morning. Alex (my little bro) had just finished talking to dimebag before it happened. They (position 6) were less than 10 minutes away when it happened. FOrtunately none of the band was injured, but it still has alex shook up hard.... I will pass your condolences on to him.
Seems a bizaar coincidence this occured close to the anniversery of John Lennon's shooting...
While I have no love for Pantera (they hold the dubious distinction of being the only band whose concert I have fallen asleep during...) and even less for the "Dimebag" (wasn't fond of his playing and he promoted pot use), I wouldn't wish that upon anyone....
Ill bet the most anger about this case will show in Texas. Unfortunatly though the killer himself is dead, so the Texans wont be able to give him a "Texas Burial"
R.I.P. Dimebag.........your music made a deep impact on my life....it sounds corny but i still get goosebumps when i hear that unforgettable rif to "Walk"...im gonna go twist one up and crank up vulgar display of power in his honor.......R.I.P Dimebag..........
