i just posted a few days ago that i bought a dana 60 for the rear end of my truck, now im trying to get rid of all my weak links, so the front xle is next, i want something that is tough, no dana 44's i was thinkin another 60, anyways i want it to be coil sprung, any ideas of what would be a good strong option, what year trucks and what not it should be from
I will probly get flamed for this: Ford HP D60 out of any late model F350. Yes the Ball Joint ones. Much easier to find and cheaper than King pin HP D60. I got a complete working HP d60 out of a 94 F350 that did not see hardly any off road use with 4.10 gears for 900.00 to my door. I haven't seen any real evidence that BJ 60s are that much weaker than KP 60's. Most of the people actually useing them have said that they haven't had any problems with them. JMO.
hey I found what you are looking for it is a kp D60 on ebay check it out the ebay number is 7940215189 shipping might be a little high but if it doesn't go to high might be worth it.

just to let you know, that is from a 78-79.. you could make it work with a 80+ truck, but a 85.5+ KP axle would be better.

As was already discussed in length the king pin D60 IS stronger than the balljoint axle. Let's not do this again. Had you paid $500 for the axle you got I would have said it was a good deal. $900 for a ball joiny axle is not anything to brag about . . . kingpins can be had to this.
Justin, if you really want to upgrade things I would suggest you find a wrecked F350 and use the front D60 and rear D70. If you upgrade your front you'll find your 30 spline D60 rear to be the weak link. Good call on no D44's.
Considering it was a 94' model with very little use, It did not need to be rebuilt. Just pllug and play. Older axles especialy KP 60's have seen alot of abuse and will need to be rebuilt. Plus you will pay a premium for a KP.
Hence my recomendation.
Good luck what ever you choose.
Randy, how about you come back and tell us how great it works when you actually get the rig running. Last I checked all you had were some dark pictures of incorrect shacke angles and it wasn't looking like the "beast" was going anywhere. No offense (of course) but $900 is NOT any kind of special deal on an inferior balljoint D60. Don't give this guy false info . . . it's like the blind leading the blind.
It is not false info just my opinion. BTW Can you point out the "false" info
What kind of pics you expect from a blind guy?
It is still underconstruction. Shackle angles are not set in stone. Is that the best you can come up with?
I learn quickly, Do tons of research. and ask lots of questions. If I still didn't know anything I would keep my mouth shut but I have learned alot in the past few months.
I have been working on cars all my life. 24yrs. of experience.
Still haven't heard where I gave false or erroneous info.
You know I can't see pics so be a man and just say it.

Never said the BJ 60 was as strong or stronger than a KP 60. Just not enough difference to justify the extra expense and hassle of finding a decent KP 60. If you find a good KP 60 for a decent price and are willing to rebuild it Go for it. It is stronger. Just hard to find at a reasonalbe price. Oh yeah it does suffer from Death wobble from time to time.
Which the death wobble is from parts that need replaced, or the spring in the king pin assembly which can't handle the WEIGHT of our oversized tires. I believe Pro posted about Pirate's fix of shimming the spring so that it was compressed all the time, not letting the tire get out of control.
