Here is the debate on BJ vs KP 60's: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=309720
Have a good night, Ivan.
man i didn't think all this talk would start up from this post, it seems that only one or two people even answered or said anything about my question, anways ivan, your saying that this dana 60 i just got to throw behind the rear end of my truck will be my weak link, i do know what you mean, but do you really think it will be a problem, the truck doesn't have lots of power and im really using it for climbing hills and doin slow trails, let me no what you think
With the D60 in the front, yes the D60 rear will be your weakest link. Will it be a problem for you probably not, I think (not to put words into ivans mouth on this) that what he is saying is if you can find the F350 with the D70 rear you will be better off but the D60 will work fine IMHO. although one of the biggest things I have seen on D60 rears is case deflection so if you put on a cover that is a support cover this will help it alot, and since you got it run it unless you find that F350 then sell the 60 and put in the D70
Monsterbaby pretty much summed it up. I wasn't saying that the D60 rear would be too weak for your application but the front D60 will be stronger, at least in terms of the inner axles. You don't need to ditch it for the D70 but keep an eye out for F350's being parted out. A lot of times you can find them in the local paper and get axles off people who don't know better for cheap. Better yet you might be able to find a whole F350 and steal all the good parts. There are plenty of them around your neck of the woods.
I will probly get flamed for this: Ford HP D60 out of any late model F350. Yes the Ball Joint ones. Much easier to find and cheaper than King pin HP D60. I got a complete working HP d60 out of a 94 F350 that did not see hardly any off road use with 4.10 gears for 900.00 to my door. I haven't seen any real evidence that BJ 60s are that much weaker than KP 60's. Most of the people actually useing them have said that they haven't had any problems with them. JMO.
i bought my KP D60 (in my gallery) for exactly $1000...went and picked it up 10 minutes from my house. it came with 4.10" gears, tires, wheels, brakes, shocks, trac bar, springs and u-bolts, and steering. my buddy chris (some of you know him as Ho) put it in the next day and i was driving it after that. hell i didn't even change the diff oil! i wouldn't say in the least i got a good deal but i did get my money's worth. 900 is pretty sad for a bare BJ D60.
i got a buddy running a D60 rear with 40" ground hawgs and a 390, it seems like every weekend we are replacing his axle shafts from breaking them the previous weekend. don't waste your time with D60 rear....get a sterling, D70, or 14 bolt any of those will hold up to 44's and a decent amount of horsepower. here's what i would do if i were you.... get a D70u for th back, D60 KP front, NP435 tranny, NP205 t-case (doubler if you have the cash) and then 1 ton shafts from Jesse like Pro has and the only weak link you'll have then is your motor (literally)
-cutts-
PS my buddies truck is in my gallery... i am pulling him out in one of the pics troy is his name
Sorry about all this. All I am trying to say is don't let these guys scare you away from late model D60's. If you find a good KP D60 at a reasonable price go for it. But if like me all you find out there are 1500.+ KP D60's that need lots of work then don't be afraid of getting A much more availible and cheaper BJ D60. They work for alot of people. Everyone you have heard from run KP's. The people I have talked to actually run BJ D60'ss. Just do alot of research like myself and don't let anyone else make your decisions for you.
Good luck.
Oh yeah, I ask all these inane and silly questions because I am blind and can't see what I am working on.. So I ask questions, get it done right without breaking anything. Put on a blindfold and work in the shop for awile before you make me out as a fool. I do what most blind people wouldn't even try.
So stop the petty nitpicking and grow up.

my uncle owns a 94 PSD with a D60 BJ and he has had to rebuild them 3 times so far in the past few years. he's not into offroading and doesn't dog his truck like i do my trail rig. ball joints are weaker.
I DO however agree with Randy that if you find one for a decent price ($600-800) do NOT hesitate!
Randy, we are not making fun of you b/c you are blind....i commend you for the work and efforts you put in, considering your circumstances BUT for some reason you think you are an acception to flaming, or healthy debate as i like to call it. you need to do lots more research and really find the answers before you go spoutin off 'facts'. i am no way provoking you and this is the last post for me in this thread and is not meant to be offensive or derogatory towards anyone.
have anymore questions about any kind of Dana 60 (ford chevy or dodge!) and you can go here and find out http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/
there is some truely invaluable information in there and would be a great place to get a background before asking questions and feel dumb!
i sincerely hope everyone has a most stupendous day
