Hello to all I am new to this forum been surfing here a while and fixed a lot of things on my 97 4x4 c/c auto by research. Now I could use some help. I have replaced all glow plugs and relay truck starts great now, but have an skip that comes and goes at idle mostly when colder sounds like one cylinder goes dead puffs heavy smoke then idles fine. Then comes back last about 3-10 seconds at atime. truck has 65 horse bully dog chip,d/p,and afew other minor things. Thanks for your help.......
Pikachu, I am going to disagree and say it's a failing injector o-ring. If the wiring harness were failing it would not inject at all and therefore no smoke.
thanks kwik I fail to mention that raising rpms up to about 1200 or more skip dissapears. Is worse when cold, after warm seldom skips at idle and only does it when first started, whether cold or hot. How would i find out which injector is culprit.Only way I know is to find coldest bank on exhaust upon initial start of day, any other suggestions?
Without using a breakout box the only way that I know of is to remove the valve covers, start the motor and one by one unplug the injectors until you find the offending one. Then since you are already there it's a quick matter to fix it.
EDIT: You can also unplug the wiring harness at the valve cover gasket one by one before you pull the covers. You'll kill more than one at a time, but at least you will know which side to take off.
that almost sounds like a cracked nozzle, im going with a bad injector sounds like solinoid is opening but not closing, i agree with quick and going process of elimination
