I have a '65 f 250 with a 352. Ever since I have had the truck it has made a ticking noise. I have replaced the lifters and checked all the rocker arms for play. Someone told me that it could be a loose wrist pin. If that is the problem, should I try to fix it or drive the truck until something breaks?
Wrist pin bushing. I had one doing that, it will do it for a while, but sooner or later it will fail. It would wake up going clack clack clack and go to sleep doing the same. That motor would run, didn't matter if you were runing 100mph you could give it gas and feel it respond.
I'd start an engine building fund. I guess if you are talented enough you could tear into it and replace the one bushing, but most guys say that if you are that far into an engine, go ahead and finish the rebuild.
If its not a loud tick you may want to check your plug wires sometimes
they arc from one to the other, also the distributor cap can arc and make a
ticking noise . I like to rule out the small things first .
P.S. some old fuel pumps tick

It could also be some simple things like bent push rods, which I will assume you checked when changing the lifters, or it might be an exhaust leak. That never happens on FEs though. I have heard burned valves making similar noises. If the noise changes when you pull the plug wire, it may well be in the bottom end. My '65 352 has ticked for five years since I bought it. Someday it will get a new 390 but until then the radio just gets louder.
I know you replaced the lifters, but is it possible that you have some clogged oil galleries and the sound is the result of a dry tappet? Have you ran some Sea Foam or some Rislone through the oil? And I've never used Marvel's, but I hear it works well.
I had 2 of my trucks with FE engines with clicking in them and I went through the same thing with replacing the lifters, turned out to be a weak spring on the arm of the fuel pump. New pumps and no more clicking. Just something to think about.
No there all wrong, IT"S A BOMB, RUN!!! Just Kidding. You may try checking your engine oil pressure. It may be too low and need to change out your oil pump. Fords tick when they dont get there share of oil to their lifters. Valvoline oil additave also works to fix the problem if it nothing more than a simple proble. Hopre the best for ya.
I replaced the fuel pump about six months ago, and replaced the oil pump with a melling hv about a year ago. I have not tried any seafoam or marvel in the oil. I will try that next. I also replaced the push rods when I took it apart to inspect the valvetrain.
