I am on my second set of rotors for my E150 and they are now showing symptoms of warping. Has anybody had luck in finding rotors that either don't warp or last more than 25,000 miles before warping? If so, where did you find the rotors?
I found an outfit out west who freezes their rotors and claims this corrects the warping problem. I am not sure I believe their claim and of course, their rotors are expensive.
If you are talking about 360below their claims are true. I mechanic for a county ambulance sevice and they made a huge difference. As you can imagine there is only two positions for the gas and brake pedals, to floor or nothing at all. Not that much more expensive but they last 3 time longer, and if they need to be turned down they still can be.
I have found that if you torque the lug nuts to the proper specs, they will not warp. I started doing this about 93. Since then I have not had to have rotors turned or replaced on any of the vehicles I was driving.
I always thought that torqueing the lugnuts would be a definite way to prevent rotor warping. I bought my 2002 van new and the day I brought it home, I retorqued all of the lugnuts. I have always torqued the lugnut to spec when I rotated the tires and the one time the van was in the shop for warranty work, I retorqued the lugs just in case the dealer had the wheels off. In short, the lugs have always been torqued and I now need to put on my third set of rotors. Heat is the real problem and I would think that vented rotors would help. It also sounds like the theory presented by www.frozenrotors.com is plausible.
Interesting, as soon as I started torqueing the rotors, my problems went away. Is it possibly a caliper problem, where the pads are dragging a little, causing the problem?
