Yes, all will be well provided that they lift some restriction on the real truck challenge too. This means you could see BigFoot at ttc. Or some dude in a Panzer tank. Its cool they opened their doors the more I think about it. Removing the point categories based on opinion instead of flat out competition is a GREAT move. Some of the calls in previous years have been flat out insulting.
Damn, it would be cool to take an actual monster truck in there. They only specify that it has to be narrow enough to fit in the mud pit. Other than that you can bring whatever you want as long as it has no jet engines (sorry Pro). This may encourage me to hurry up and build something stupid crazy with 4 wheel steering.
I'd love to enter but there's certain equipment required (winch, etc) and there's a lot of expense in terms of travel and ALL the spare parts you need to take with you to compete. It'll take some planning to be ready for it.
Seems to me that the reason we dont see more fords in TTC is the magazines (all of em') have decided to go after the easy crowds of chevy and jeep enthusiasts, which is understandable-go after the largest customer base you can instead of spreading yourself too thin on all of them. Those of us that actually go wheeling often know damn well that there are more fords out there than the mags would ever want to admit to. Used to be a fairly good cross section of brands and models years ago, but now the only fords that get any sizable coverage are Super Dutys- I will even read about Toyotas and Scouts because I'm tired of all the chevys and chevy powered buggies and jeeps. Decided I wont be resubscribing to Four Wheeler(since 85) or 4Wheel& Off road - I will just go with Bronco Driver!!!!
Maybe they need to have different classes within the Challenges. Possibly two classes in RTC like 39-inch tires and under and 40-inch tires and over. Maybe in TTC have a stock based chassis where the vehicle has to use a production chassis and an unlimited chassis where anything goes. That might promote more vehicles with varying designs to enter as then it isn't a moon (rock) buggy vs. a truck like Pro's and Ivan's. You could still have an overall winner based on some kind of points system if you wanted. Something like that might make it more appealing to people.
if you guys are sick of the same ole same ole crap that petersons and all the other 4x4 mags put out i have a solution! i recently began my subscription to X-treme Offroad magazine! it is prolly the best 4x4 mag cause they are always doing something different aside from installing a lift on a superduty or how to change a top on a jeep! Not to mention Billavista (pirate's chief tech writer) has been signed on XOM as Senior Tech Writer, and if any of you have read his stuff he has some REALLY sweet articles with priceless info in them! outta check'em out
I entered my rig in the RTC but never heard back or read anything about what happened. Was there any coverage on the RTC. I wish they would have a eastcoast and westcoast event of RTC that way more of us could get in. The bad part about competing in these kind of events is you wait around a long time to run your rig. then when it's your turn you pound the snot out of it till it breaks then you start wrenching and buying new parts. Don't get me wrong I've entered in rock crawling events and loved it.
I wish they would have a eastcoast and westcoast event of RTC that way more of us could get in.
there was a guy that completed in a TTC in recent years that came from Israel and it cost him $10,000 to get him and his rig here! talk about being serious!
I felt the same way about my 74. Now I have about 6K in it, but that is over almost 4 years. I guess you appreciate it more that way Also, now I want some of the things that I did different, but cant afford to change it (like bigger tires) Oh well, if I keep it long enough, they will wear out, and I will modify it some more then.
I've been following the White Knight buildup for almost two years. Yeah...7th place in the engineering department. Ok, sure. I'd like to see ANY of those other competing vehicles park a 44 inch bogger up against a 70's era Chevy pickup door and "ramp" the cab to park the tire on top of it. (All while keeping the rear tires flat on the ground!) Talk about capable vehicle....mud, rocks, flat out POWER..it does it all and it doesn't even look stupid.
GET RID OF OPINION-BASED TESTING. It's supposed to be "Top Truck Challenge" not a show-n-shine or humane center. Pick what works the best, not what the truck (or pet) looks like.
