I've never tried to remove it, but I've had good success with sand blasting or bead blasting it and then painting over it. As an example, when I rebuilt my Suzuki GS850 back in 1983 I sandblasted the chromed front fender and then painted it. It still is holding up just fine after all these years. -TD
