I am not sure what the infrared port on the radio is for but I can tell you the dvd remote will not control the dvd player when pointed at that port. At least not in ours.

thank you, so, the only real purpose the remote serves is so the people in the 3rd row can aim it at the port on the black dvd player and control stuff?

I'll need it then

'05 Expy Nav Radio/DVD/ IR vs Wired

So am I missing something? You have to use wired headphones (plugged into the panel at the back of the console) if 2nd row wants to listen to the dash radio/CD, but the IR if they want to watch a DVD (or play a CD in the unit). This even though the dash unit (Nav in my case) is capable of playing the DVD soundtrack through the speaker system. If this is true (and I think it must be because I can't get the IR headphones to play radio or CD), what a disappointment. Worse really than the 'Phone' button which, per the owner's manual, is inactive.

I love my Expedition, but you just gotta wonder sometimes.

First of all ...My apologies to krazymarine for not responding to your offer!!!Hi to the rest of u guys...My boys have conspired to keep me off the computer by distracting me with their day to day shenanigans...Anyway I paid the ransom and bought 2 from ford...I waited too long to address the situation and a road trip with the kids came up...After looking at the cost of maintaining my sanity, I opted to pay now and live to pay another day....
