390FE Swap

Toying with the idea of putting a 76 390FE/C6 combo, that I presently have stored, into a Ranger. Anyone ever done this? If so any year of Ranger that is preferred to use? Any big problems encountered? Is it an impossible swap? I am sure it would be a tight fit, but I think it would make a neat winter project.

390FE Swap

first thing that comes to mind, ,, legality ,, i dont know about where you live,, but we cant "legally" put in a motor that is older than the vechile.

secondly,, if i wanted to hot rod a ranger,, i would just go with a 302 with a c-4 or a aod or even better ,, a t-5, there is aftermarked support for this conversion ,, and its not all the hard of an conversion,,

I have built a 86 ranger with a 302 and i used a c-4 , i had a custom exaust made,, im still running the factory 4 banger rearend, and brakes, with no problems, i retained my heat , and the whole intall looks like it was built that way from the factory,,,

I bring my truck to some local cruises,, and most people just pass by ,, but some people actually look under the hood ,, and when they see that there is a 5.0 under the hood ,, they are really impressed,,

Thanks for the info, dynamic. Legality isn't a problem here, no inspections of any kind here.
I have read quite a bit about the 302 swap, and it sounds good. However I really, really like the FE's.
I may give it a try anyway. I was just wondering if I would be "breaking new ground" or if someone else had already tried it.
I am sure it would involve many mods and much fabrication, but it would be rather different/unique.
Anyway it is only in the thought process right now
