87 ranger timing

I have an 87 Ranger with a 2.9L and it has always had trouble turning over when its hot so I check the timing and it was 20degrees ATDC I tried turning it back to factory specs but it won't accelerate hardly at all if you hold the pedal to the floor the max speed is 25mph. Any Ideas?

Maybe a vacuum leak? Put a guage on it to see how much you have. It might be something as simple as a disconnected hose. How was it running before you changed the timing?

Were you connected to number one -passenger side closest to radiator- & did you remove the spout connector when you timed it?

When i first got the truck it was set to 30 degrees ATDC and I rebuilt the lower end and when I reinstalled it I check the timing and the farthest I could get it back was 20 degrees ATDC and it still run right if Itake it back any farther its sluggish
I removed the plug from the ignition module on the distributor when I did the timing and let it warm up.
