hey guys as some of you know i have a 72 F-250 with a rebuilt 73 390. im wondering what kind of transmissions others have used in this setup. i currently have a C-6 and i want a manual but i also want to accelerate quickly (kind of a suedo rodded out truck) i was wondering if something like a t-5 transmission would work or if that is geared to much for the car world. any ideas or info would help
[QUOTE=mallard8767] i currently have a C-6 and i want a manual but i also want to accelerate quickly (kind of a suedo rodded out truck) i was wondering if something like a t-5 transmission would work or if that is geared to much for the car world.
The gearing would be ok, but don't go grab a T5 from an old four cylinder Mustang. Breakage for sure... Your 390 will develope much more torque than even a five liter. The old Top Loader car four speed ( with the removable top cover for access to the gears and the three shift rods on the left side of the tranny) would be a great transmission, if you can find and buy one.
My old '70 F100 had a NP435-granny first and reverse. Plenty quick and it had won many street races for me. A wonderful truck tranny, but I swapped in a C6.
