Trans fluid

I checked my manual trans fluid today at the filler hole and my manual says you should stick your finger in the hole to feel if its near the bottom of the hole. when I looseened the cap fluid started flying out of it, so I closed it quick. {This was when the engine and everything was cold all day}. So I'm guessing its overfilled, so is this a problem? should i let it run out a little or leave it? any advice would be cool. thanx

first of all, make sure you check it on level ground otherwise it doesnt take much for the fluid to come out. if it is still pouring out on level ground then it is overfilled and needs to be drained a bit. your manual is correct, it should be at the bottom of the filler hole.

it was on level ground. if it is overfilled is it going to hurt anything?

if it is overfilled then there will be more pressure inside which could cause leaks. definately drain it to the bottom of the fill hole.
