F350 Canadian Daytime Running Lights

I have a 2003 F350 PSD that has the Canadian Daytime Running Lights (THE LIGHTS NEVER TURN OFF). I would like to (1) disable this feature? (turn the lights off when I want them off) and (2) change the operation of the headlights and fog lights so that the fog lights are operational with high beam headlights. The article at http://www.ssdiv.com/fogfix.html is very complete and helpful but states this modification can not be done with Canadian DRL. Does anyone have a solution to my two problems?

Thanks for the help

Steve, did you ever find a solution? I too have the similar problems. I would like to disable the DRL's. The fog light is not a problem because mine don't come on.

Got An Answer!

Joel Toy @ Baker Auto Acc. is a great help. They sell Brite Box and go the extra mile. Anyhow, he directed me to LIGHTSOUT (www.lightsout.org/disable.html) . Lightsout website tells you how to disable DRL on most vehicles. On my truck it says to remove fuse #12 from the high amp fuse box under the hood. Now! How do I find that fuse box? I found a quick and easy fix is to remove #14 on the fuse box under the dash. I am carrying that fuse with me in case I run into unexpected problems.

The parking brake trick doesn't work on my '02 F350.

I do not know if there are two versions of the headlight switch depending on whether or not the vehicle came equipped with the fog lights or not, but it seems that it would be more economical to only have one part to fit all.

Try this: Turn the switch all the way to the on position, then try pulling it out. If the **** comes out, then I would assume the switch is ready (and possibly) prewired for the fog lamps. If it does not come out, then I guess that there really is two versions of the switch. If the switch does seem to pop out (away from the dash), the switch will want to pop back in to turn off the switch.

The local dealer told me if your switch doesn't have the fog light emblem on it, the switch will not work for fog lights. I had the same question. My light switch pulls out so I assumed I probably had a wiring harness in place and would just simply mount the lights and plug them. Not according to the dealer. They said I needed the lights and wiring harness, $250.00, a new switch, $65.00, and if they were going to install them, another $350.00. Needless to say I'm looking into other options for fog lights. I do like the way they are mounted from the factory.

Find a foglight equipped truck in a junkyard and compare the switch to yours and count the wires coming from the switch. You might be surprised. I have seen a number of cases where a truck that was missing an option was already wired for the option.
I suggest finding someone who has a DVD containing a wiring diagram. Sometimes the parts counterperson will show you the diagrams. I have found that sometimes the parts guys are better to talk to than the service managers. They would easily be able to tell you if there is more than one part number for the switch. Even then, the difference may only be that one has a picture for the fog lamps and one does not.
