Radius arm angle, need info.

Ok, so i put a 6" skyjacker suspension lift into the ol girl. 79 F150 4x4. I bought all the goodies to do it right. Drop pitman arm, track bar bracket, and radius arm drop brackets. now i knew it would drop the arms down a bit, but it seems like i either dont have enough lift in the front, or the brackets were overkill....My arms are sitting almost dead level, or maybe even sloped up a bit going to the axle....what is the ideal radius arm...angle shall we call it? I just want everything in the front end to be strait and true, thats why i spent the extra money for the parts. Thanks for any and all help guys

There has never been anything printed as to prefered angle.(as far as I know). When rad. arms are moved up/down the caster angle will change, most trucks have 2-4 degrees.By dropping the arms more then the axle it creates more possitive caster, some kits give new C-bushings to keep it where it should be.Chances are that the drop-brackets are also used for an 8" kit, which is why they are a little longer on yours. The drop brackets also help to keep axle centered in wheel opening,3'' kits don't need-em,4'' do,and so on.It's not hurting anything like it is though. You can probably get the drop-brackets for a 4'' and be good.I had a 79 also, and I accumulated a bunch of parts before I lifted it and used 4'' drop brackets and 6'' springs and never had a problem.

Take a look at your drop brackets. Is there another hole above the one you used, or can you drill another hole about 2" higher than the one you used? That may solve the problem for practically free...

mhmmmmm....mhmmmmm, i thank both you fine gentlemen, i will have to take a good look at er when i can get it back in the shop. Im not sure i can just drill another hole, but maybe shorten them up a bit or something like that. My radius arms with the truck level will be a few degrees sloping down from the axle....looks funny to me, but unless for some reason im not getting the lift in the front like i should, it cant be all totally wrong.

i am having this same problem i have pics in my gallery to show the exact same thing. i am thinking about buying the 9" lift springs just so it doesnt look so stupid. what would happen if i lifted a truck 6" w/o the drop brakets?? it it looks like too much on 6" lift what would be the down side effect of it???
