Get Back Into Shape

OK, I have a 1960 233 inline 6 on a truck I just towed back from north, I changed... plug wires, condensor, points, dist cap, and the round thing that has the wire going to the dist cap middle. It has a slight tick and it has quite a bit of smoke coming out of the oil breather,,,(its negotible on whats a lot of smoke, any, is too much for me.) What is the best steps to go to start to get this engine healthy.

Burning any oil? Your breather smoke is blow-by. Any worn engine is going to have that. You can "tidy" it up if you install a pvc set up. Make sure you set it up with a proper PCV so you don't suck oil.

Or you can do a ring and bearing job, and have a smaller amount of smoke.

ticking check your lifters... that round thing was your coil... it may be worn but that engine should last for quite a while

Proper PCV valve for application, A constant vacuume source (preferably from the baseplate of the carb), and a hole in the valve cover to place the PCV valve in. Oh, you'll also need a length of vacuume line to connect the PCV valve to the port on the carb and a rubber grommet in the valve cover so the PCV valve is sealed and not just hanging around. Hope that helps, Carl
