BAD exhaust backfire???
i just dropped a 390 in my truck as a replacement for the stock 352. it has a mild comp cam in it, headers and a 650 holley double pumper on it. it was running fine a few days ago but then the duraspark dist started to go out so i through my old points dist back in with new cap, rotor, points and condenser. it idles fine but as soon as it gets to around 1200 rpm it makes a horrible bang out of the exhaust.

Double check the dwell and timing. If the dist. is the only thing diff. then that's the first place to check. Then check for exhaust leaks. They will cause a pop in the exhaust. Make suren all plug wires are securely connected.

1. What makes you think the duraspark was going out?. And now it's still not running right?? And how did you figure that it was the duraspark and not something else. Like crap in your gas or something?? my 2cents
